Program Structure
Introduction
The fellowship is a twelve month placement starting July 1 with a 5 day, 40 hours per week schedule, with the assessment and treatment of college students as a priority. Opportunities will include, but will not be limited to, individual supervision with various staff psychiatrists, didactic lectures, workshops, and case conferences with other mental health professionals. The setting is exclusively outpatient with no evening or weekend call or typical managed care requirements.
Clinical Responsibilities
The Fellow will spend approximately 50-60% of his or her time providing direct service to college students. He or she will have 90 minutes for the Initial Diagnostic Evaluation and thirty minutes for follow-up visits, to be scheduled at the Fellow’s discretion. Typical medical record keeping is required via dictation or voice recognition software. Of the 20-24 hours of direct service, 8-10 hours are allowed for record keeping, case management, and general paperwork.
Training
The Fellow will participate in a variety of training experiences and will meet individually for one hour of supervision with each of three psychiatry supervisors. Additionally, the Fellow may elect to meet with other senior staff mental health professionals who offer a rich variety of theoretical orientation, expertise, and discipline.
Fellows will participate in various didactic seminars, modules and a weekly case conference with other mental health trainees. These will average approximately three hours per week. Additional opportunities would include attending Grand Rounds in the Department of Psychiatry, supervision training, and possibly teaching medical students.
Administration
Fellows will attend full staff meeting throughout the year for an hour every other week and psychiatry meetings weekly for one hour. Committee membership for one hour per week includes opportunities for Disposition, Stigma Reduction, Utilization Review, Clinical Services or Training. Membership can rotate quarterly throughout the year. Fellows will participate in the Annual Psychiatry Retreat and the Quality Assurance Review.
Outreach
Multiple opportunities exist throughout the academic year for outreach activities on The Ohio State University campus at large. These are typically done with Senior Staff or other trainees.
Research
Limited opportunities for research, depending on the candidate’s interest, may be possible. This option can be discussed at the time of the interview.
