OSU Clinical Mental Health Counseling Internship

2009-2010

The Counseling and Consultation Service is offering a 10-month Clinical Counseling internship for students currently enrolled in The Ohio State University Counseling Education Graduate School program. The internship's primary emphasis is on advanced training in Clinical Counseling and the provision of supervised clinical interventions.

This program begins on September 1, 2009, and includes three weeks of orientation training in September and some additional training in December, following the end of Autumn Quarter. Interns also participate in providing some clinical coverage over quarter breaks. The overall emphasis of the experience will be advanced clinical training.

The internship involves supervised direct service of individual counseling, workshops, consultation, and outreach activities. Participation and supervision in providing group therapy and couples counseling may also be available. Interns also participate in orientation, staff meetings, and agency committees.

A major emphasis will be in the area of direct clinical service. The program is designed to meet the needs of those second-year M.A. or Ph.D. students seeking supervised training in clinical work with college students with diverse concerns from multicultural backgrounds. The counselor intern will also receive training in clinical case consultation, various psychotherapy techniques and approaches, and multicultural issues in counseling.

CCS is dedicated to training persons preparing for mental health careers, and training is viewed as an essential component of CCS. We have a multidisciplinary training group of counselor interns, social work interns,  and psychology interns. Interns have an excellent opportunity to learn about the practice of therapy, as well as the importance of the clinician's understanding of self and the impact of self in the counseling process.

Two counselor intern positions are available. The persons selected will contract for a 20-hour week throughout the 10-month training program. These positions are funded as half-time graduate assistantships and provide a tuition waiver and a monthly stipend.
